GDPR

The way in which we, Access Bookings advertises’ and markets to you is changing, here’s a rundown of what you need to know…

What’s changing and why?

As of early 2016, the decision to reform data protection laws in the EU was confirmed – this new legislation is known as the EU General Data Protection Regulation (abbreviated as GDPR), and will become enforceable on 25th May 2018.

According to the EUGDPR, this new legislation ‘was designed to harmonize data privacy laws across Europe, to protect and empower all EU citizens data privacy and to reshape the way organizations across the region approach data privacy’.

You can find out more about GDPR by visiting their website at https://gdpr.eu/.

OK, so what does this mean for me?

This rudimentary change in data protection, means that you have more power and control over how your data is stored and processed – in layman’s terms, if you want to receive any marketing emails from us (or from any company for that matter) that aren’t about other services we offer (i.e. industry newsletters, promotions and offers), you’ll have to provide explicit consent for us to do so – this is being referred to as ‘opting in’.

If you don’t want to hear from a company full stop, this new legislation gives you (a member of the public in the EU) the power to opt-out as well – meaning that whoever you ‘opted-out’ of communications with, could no longer contact you and must delete your contact details from every system, in a reasonable amount of time.

Essentially, this new legislation gives you the power to choose who you want to hear from.

What do you mean I have to give consent?

As defined in the regulation document (which can be found at https://gdpr.eu/) consent ‘means any freely given, specific, informed and unambiguous indication of the data subject’s wishes by which he or she, by a statement or by a clear affirmative action, signifies agreement to the processing of personal data relating to him or her’

So in a nutshell:

  • We (Access Bookings), have to clearly and explicitly state what we’ll be contacting you for and how we’ll store and use your data
  • You, have to explicitly confirm you want to receive communications from us

Ok then, so how do I opt-in/opt-out?
