Top 5 Eco Hotels: UK Edition

By now, we all know how important it is to recycle, buy locally-grown products and bring our own reusable bags to the supermarket. However, you can now go the extra mile and even be selective on where you stay on your travels. The good news is that we’ve come a long way from compostable toilets, cold water showers and lettuce leaves. In fact, the latest generation of hotels leading the way in sustainability not only promises an arm-long list of environmentally-friendly, feel-good credentials; so it’s never been easier to reduce the impact of your business trips!

Remember! This is just a handful of selected hotels, out of the thousands we can book. We have a full range of services all at your fingertips, so let’s get talking!

The Scarlet, Cornwall

This is one to add to your sustainable hotel’s pit stop if you’re looking for laid-back eco luxury! This cliff-top eco hotel features luxurious amenities, such as a relaxation room and a sunbathing terrace. But the hotel’s most exciting features are the ones you don’t always see, such as the roof constructed entirely from Sea Thrift (a local plant). Every little detail, from the complimentary organic soaps to the slippers made from recycled plastic bottles, have all been thought out with sustainability in mind. Let’s not forget the extensive menu of organic and seasonal ingredients.

Apex City Quay Hotel, Dundee

Not all eco-friendly hotels are in remote areas; this hotel is located in Scotland’s second most populated city and has sustainability down to a science. This hotel pays careful attention to its energy consumption and carbon footprint wherever possible. What’s more impressive is it’s Yu Spa, the first green spa in Scotland. From organic spa products to water filtration systems, everything has been designed with eco credentials in mind!

Llangoed Hall, Powys

A fine romance of a country manor, Llangoed Hall entwines many centuries of history with the inimitable flair of the Ashley family. However, the real highlight is the wealth of eco credentials it has and it’s plans for a sustainable future. Llangoed Hall promotes Green Tourism wherever possible, from producing homegrown produce to reusing scrap material wherever they can. Promising garden to plate in 2 minutes, Llangoed Hall, really does adhere to the ‘garden to fork’ ethos and what’s more, if it’s not homegrown it’s sourced within a 5 mile radius! They also keep duck, hen, bantam and quail…so you definitely can have your eggs and eat them!

The Green House Hotel, Bournemouth

If you want luxury, without sacrificing your green values then The Green House hotel should be on the top of your list! This hotel has been voted as the best eco-hotel in the UK, one of the best eco-hotels in the world and holds the all important Green Tourism Gold award. During its refurbishment in 2010, more than 100 changes were made to boost the green nature of the hotel, from the little things, such as energy efficient lighting and sustainable furniture materials (100% wool carpets too), to the big things, such as using solar power to help heat the water, and a combined heat and power unit to create electricity. There are even beehives on the roof!

Qbic, London

This hotel was one of the first hotels to be awarded Platinum GreenLeader by TripAdvisor, way back in 2014 and has continued to put sustainability at the top of the agenda ever since.  Qbic’s environmentally friendly practices include generating a portion of their electricity through their own solar panels, electric car charging, natural mattresses and environmentally friendly toiletries and cleaning products…just to name a few!

They also have 10 bikes (helmets and locks are provided) that are free of charge to use – there’s no better way to see the sights. Not forgetting they reward green thinking…Those staying more than one night and who choose not to have their room serviced, will be rewarded with a free drink at the bar!
