Useful Apps for Travel

We appreciate that your time is precious and no one needs a smartphone full of gimmicky, useless apps. So, we’ve rounded up our favourites (from experience… over 30 years of it) just for the business traveller. Install them now – while you still have WiFi! They’re all FREE might we add…

Before you go

PackPoint

With this app, you won’t ever have to deal with those ‘did I pack my…’ feelings ever again. You tell PackPoint where you’re going, when you’re going, and what you plan to do there and PackPoint compiles a list of things to pack. You’ll never have to deal with the hassle of packing again – plus, you can share your lists with your fellow travellers!

Timeshifter

It’s every business traveller’s nemesis, jet lag! Let’s be realistic there isn’t a magical cure but Timeshifter can help! Timeshifter creates a custom travel plan with an up-to-date timeline of when you should try to get some sleep, when you should seek light, or when you should drink or avoid caffeine. The app can also send you alerts so you can stay on track without constantly checking your schedule!

During your trip

Netflix

Now if you’re like us, we love watching the latest films and tv on a long flight but watching Netflix whilst travelling, just got easier. Members are able to download entertainment from the app at no extra cost! It’s as easy as clicking the “Download” button in the movie or TV details on the app. So hop on Netflix and download a couple of things to watch! Plus, the highly anticipated 3rd Season of The Crown, is now available for download!

WhatsApp

No list would be complete, without including this messaging mastermind. With Brexit around the corner (apparently), EU roaming is at threat! If you want to avoid SMS fees (in the not too distant future), connect to the nearest WiFi and use WhatsApp for sending those all important gifs….

Citymapper

Citymapper is one of the best tools to find and utilise public transport! With over 40 major cities in its bank, it connects with a few ride-sharing services, offering the fastest way to arrive at your destination, and best of all, you can check out subway/ train times offline for a number of cities. Our favourite feature is that the app can even alert you when you need to get off — handy when you’re riding for the first time in a new country! But if you don’t feel like getting into a packed train, why not jump into a cab instead!

Google Translate

A golden oldie (in internet terms)! Google translate does what it says on the tin, translating over 100 different languages both on and offline, allowing you to listen to translations and translate dictation. Even better, download the language you need, and aim the camera at the text you need translated. Boom – instant translation!

XE Currency

XE is your go-to currency conversion app! You can find real-time exchange rates or convert any currency within seconds! The app even saves the last updated rates so you can even use the app offline!

WiFi Map

The days of travelling comfortably without WiFi may soon be a thing of the past! Unfortunately, roaming fees for on-the-go internet can quickly add up, particularly if you’re a frequent business traveller! WiFi Map highlights available WiFi hotspots near your location and the passwords needed to use them!

Culture Trip

Culture Trip is one of the best free travel guides out there! Just plug in your destination and discover amazing things to see, do, and experience in over 300 locations worldwide! Everything on it has been recommended by someone who lives it, loves it, and wants you to experience it too. This app makes local culture accessible to everyone!
